Moroccan tagines are one of the most popular souvenirs this beautiful land has to offer. This is where the lovely combination of aesthetically pleasing design and functionality meets. The intricate designs on this handmade dish are beautiful, but it is also strong enough to use every day. Again, everything is made by hand. Everything is meticulously crafted from burned clay and painted by hand. This country's soil was used to make the clay. This is a completely organic substance.
These traditional tagines of varying sizes and shapes are crafted by talented artisans in an Eastern Mediterranean style. Individual handwork still emphasizes naturalness. Unique in form and design, each object tells a story about the people and culture of a particular maritime nation. Every part is a "highlight" in itself.
Clay, a material unique to Fes, is mined only there, at a location known as Ben.
In Fes, clay is dried for 20 days, broken, cleaned, and soaked for two days. Artisans shape it into vases, jars, and plates by hand, bake at 2000°C for 8 hours, paint with natural colors, coat for shine, and bake again. The products are durable for daily use. Zellige tiles are baked, painted, and designed with intricate patterns by the Nekkach. Assembled with "la resin," these tiles showcase Fes’s craftsmanship inspired by ancient designs.
