Let your valuable guests experience the true, authentic flavor of Morocco with these traditional Moroccan serving utensils known as tagines. A tagine can refer to either the food itself or the conical kettle in which it is cooked. Due to its ingenious shape, the tagine collects the steam that rises from the cooking liquid and sends it dripping back down the sides, where it is infused with even more flavor.
Crafted by skilled artisans in Morocco, the Tagines feature a distressed appearance and a semi-smooth glaze; they were designed with presentation and ornamentation in mind. Naturally, they also make very good serving plates. There is no lead or other toxic material in the food-safe glaze used on this tagine. These tagines are only for serving and decorative purposes.
Clay, a material unique to Fes, is mined only there, at a location known as Ben.
In Fes, clay is dried for 20 days, broken, cleaned, and soaked for two days. Artisans shape it into vases, jars, and plates by hand, bake at 2000°C for 8 hours, paint with natural colors, coat for shine, and bake again. The products are durable for daily use. Zellige tiles are baked, painted, and designed with intricate patterns by the Nekkach. Assembled with "la resin," these tiles showcase Fes’s craftsmanship inspired by ancient designs.
