The Zellige mosaic tables are one of the most notable examples of Custo Mosaic's work. These tables were painstakingly handcrafted by Moroccan craftsmen who are working diligently to ensure that their legacy is passed down to future generations. This table, which is round-shaped, is an enigmatic work of art in which the details are important.
It is distinguished by a design that was inspired by the native culture of Morocco and displays vivid hues of black and white which appear eye-catching. It was crafted using high-quality materials that are only available in Morocco.
Clay, a material unique to Fes, is mined only there, at a location known as Ben.
In Fes, clay is dried for 20 days, broken, cleaned, and soaked for two days. Artisans shape it into vases, jars, and plates by hand, bake at 2000°C for 8 hours, paint with natural colors, coat for shine, and bake again. The products are durable for daily use. Zellige tiles are baked, painted, and designed with intricate patterns by the Nekkach. Assembled with "la resin," these tiles showcase Fes’s craftsmanship inspired by ancient designs.
